ASM Consortium Director: Peggy Hewitt

Peggy Hewitt is a Director of Marketing at Honeywell Process Solutions. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Clarkson University in New York State and an Associates Degree in Chemistry from the State University of New York. Peggy has held various sales, marketing and business development positions in her career at Honeywell. She has over twenty years of experience in industrial automation from several Honeywell Automation and Control business units, including Sensing and Control, Skinner Valve, and GE/MicroSwitch (a joint venture between General Electric and Honeywell's Sensing and Control Division.) In her tenure at Honeywell Process Solutions, Peggy has held several leadership positions ranging from leading Technology Alliances for Honeywell to developing and implementing a cross functional new product development process. In addition to her new role as Director of the ASM® Consortium; she leads the Experion™ Customer Advisory Board and provides process leadership on customer development activities within marketing.

ASM Consortium Program Manager:  Liana Kiff

Liana Kiff is a senior research scientist at Honeywell Advanced Technology Labs in Golden Valley.  She has a master's degree in Software Engineering from the University of MN. Liana has 20 years of experience at Honeywell, performing applied research across many of Honeywell's control system domains including building alarm management, ground traffic control and remote patient monitoring. Liana typically works directly with engineering counterparts in the business units to ensure technology transfer.  Liana's earliest involvement in ASM was as a developer on the AEGIS prototype during the original NIST contract. Liana advises on the Procedural Operations projects, working with the business to assess usability, collect requirements, and design improved human interfaces for Honeywell's offerings in this area.  As the Program Manager for the consortium, Liana is responsible for the effective coordination of all Honeywell and ASM Consortium resources and subcontractors to ensure smooth operation and delivery on yearly research objectives.

ASM Consortium Development and Deployment Manager: John Kast  

John Kast is a senior principal systems engineer at Honeywell Process Solutions’ headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona and additionally holds the role of ASM Consortium Development and Deployment Manager.  In this role, John oversees Honeywell-funded, ASMC-directed development efforts and their subsequent successful deployments.  He also helps ensure appropriate insertion of ASM concepts into other Honeywell products.  John holds bachelor’s degrees in Mathematics and Statistics from Florida Technological University, and a master’s degree in Computer Science from Arizona State University.  John has 22 years of experience at Honeywell.  Previous to Honeywell work, John was an estimator for refinery construction engineering firms, a software engineering manager for Northern Telecom, and also helped invent stockbroker-assist systems for the New York Stock Exchange.  At Honeywell John has been primarily involved in software research and development, focusing on platforms supporting advanced process control and integrating third-party and Honeywell advanced control solutions.  His current work includes various roles with the Custom Algorithm Block (CAB) functionality in Experion and with future Experion system architecture.

ASM Consortium Principal Investigator: Jason Laberge

Jason Laberge is a principal research scientist at Honeywell Advanced Technology Labs in Golden Valley, MN. He has a bachelors and masters degree in Engineering Psychology from the University of Calgary in Canada. Jason has over ten years of experience performing basic and applied human factors research in complex system domains. Specific contributions to ASM include developing requirements for effective team communication and coordination, root cause analyses of abnormal situations, effective practices and requirements for electronic shift logging, co-author of the ASM Consortium "Effective Operations Practices Guidelines", numerous effective operations practices site audits, and evaluations of console operator displays for handling alarm floods. As the Principal Investigator for the ASM Consortium, Jason is responsible for the management, technical direction and deployment of research projects with internal and external customers; developing project concepts and proposals for internal and external customers; and preparing technical papers and patents. Jason has been the lead researcher in the area of Human Factors for the ASM Consortium for the past four years.
